SPECIALIST INTEREST

Female Urology

I provide a dedicated service to female patients suffering from urinary incontinence.  This include urgency (the need to rush to the toilet and / or urine leakage occurring when unable to get to the toilet in time), stress (urine leakage when coughing, lifting or exercising) or mixed (troubled by both).  Treatment options include pelvic floor exercise (taught by a dedicated physiotherapist), bladder training, medication, surgical treatment using Botulinum toxin, urethral bulking agent, tension-free vaginal tape and colposuspension.

Neuro-Urology

I provide a comprehensive Neuropathic Bladder service for patients with urinary and bladder problems due to neurological causes, e.g. back injury / pain / surgery, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and stroke.  The objectives are to maintain kidney function, improve patients’ quality of life and to avoid or minimise complications.

Adolescent Urology

I collaborate closely with my Paediatric Urological colleagues.  I continue the care of their patients when they have reached adolescent or adulthood.

Reconstructive Urology and Iatrogenic injury

This involves the restoration of function and anatomy to the problematic urinary tract.  Surgery can be performed to enlarge a small and unsafe bladder using segments of bowel.  An artificial cuff and reservoir can be implanted to achieve continence.  For those who are chair- or bed-bound, concealed access can be constructed from the skin on the abdomen to the bowel or bladder for ease of evacuation.  My scope of practice also includes treating patients who have suffered from iatrogenic injury.  This is unintentional injury occurring as a result of other surgery or treatment.  In my practice, I treat patients who have developed injury to the urinary bladder, ureter (the tube which drains urine from the kidney to the bladder) and urethra (the tube which allows the bladder to empty the urine); in addition to fistula (abnormal communication between two organs (e.g. the bladder and the vagina) as a result of urological, obstetric or gynaecological complications.

Lower urinary tract dysfunction

I look after patients with an Overactive / Irritable Bladder who are troubled by urgency, i.e. the sensation they have to rush to pass urine.  I am also interested in helping patients suffering from Interstitial Cystitis or Painful Bladder Conditions.  I also take care of male patients with bladder, prostate or urine leakage problem, e.g. after prostate surgery.

General Urology

I provide regular care to patients with problems of foreskin, family planning (vasectomy), testicular / scrotal lump, prostate, kidney or bladder infections.  Furthermore, I promote Men’s health and health screening.
